Design Competition – Kendogu for Women

デザイン公募「女性用剣道具」

Design Brief and submission

1. Design a kendogu for women that can help women wear and train in kendo more comfortably and minimise or eliminate current issues they have with the traditional kendogu.
2. Describe the proposed design. Describe what feature(s) have been added, modified or removed from the traditional kendogu and how to wear etc.

Rules

• You need to submit both of the above two sections, to which you will gain points from 1 to 10 for the first section and 1 to 5 for the second section. The winner will be the one with the highest number of points overall.

• The design must be your original concept and has not been submitted to other competitions or be out in the market to date (at the time of submission). 

• You can change the design of any parts of the existing kendogu or add elements to it but without changing the overall appearance in a great deal of the way it functions. 

• Competition is open to all ages and gender, regardless of kendo experience. (you don’t need to be practising kendo)

Method of submission

Submission via link form only with an attachment of max. 5 files of images to explain the idea. The format jpg or pdf. Each up to 5MB size.

Files can be alternatively sent via email. Uploading files via link form will require you to log in to a Google account which may not be convenient for you. Please make sure that you are using the same name and email address as the entry link form if you send by email.

Deadline

Competition starts on 15th February 2022 and deadline to be 15th May 2022, 23:59 BST (British Summer Time = GMT + 01:00)

The entry is free.

There will be two panels: Judges panel and members vote panel.

• A Pair of Kimono Bottle covers supplied by Nine Circles
• A kozakura patterned tsuba-dome (your choice of colour) with name embroidery supplied by a budo equipment shop in Tokyo
• One year (two issues) equivalent Fine Ladies Kendo Worldwide (FLKW) printed magazines. (FLKW will cover the cost of shipment)

Special Mention Award (Judges Panel):

Other notes

1. The ownership of your design will remain with you. Fine Ladies Kendo Worldwide will not own any parts of your submitted artwork nor ideas. Similarly, it cannot be of anyone else’s ownership. Once released, please treat the proposals with care.
2. Kendogu to include all parts e.g. men, kote, do and tare. Design can be made for one part or more.
3. The language for submission to be either English or Japanese. At the time of online release, entries will have both English and Japanese text, translated by FLKW.
4. After the deadline, all submitted works will be released online for you to vote on. You have one vote. You can still vote after submitting an entry. But you cannot vote for your own entry. The procedure will follow.
5. After the deadline, the judges will review the entries and the final announcement will be made on vol.4 issue magazine and FLKW website on 15th August 2022.

公募内容、提出物

1. 女性がより快適に剣道を行えるように、また、従来の剣道具の問題点を最小限にしたり、解消したりすることによって、女性の為に改善された女性用剣道具をデザインしてください。
2. デザイン案の説明をしてください。従来の剣道具にどのような機能が追加、変更、削除されているか、またその使い方などを含むこと。

公募規定

• 上記の2つを提出してください。1つ目の項目1～10点、2つ目の項目1～5点のポイントを審査員が採点し、獲得した合計ポイント数が多いものが優勝作品となります。

• 未発表のオリジナル作品であること、また現在（応募時点にて）商品として市場に出ていないこと。

• 既存の剣道具を部分的に変える、あるいは付属品を付け加えることができるが、全体の外観を従来のものから大きく変えないもの、使用目的・機能を変えないものに限る。

• 参加資格は年齢、性別、剣道の経験を問わない。（剣道未経験でも良い）

応募は下のリンクからのみとする。ファイルを添える場合は最大５ファイルまで。フォーマットはjpgかpdfとし、デザインを説明するイメージ、または文章とする。ファイルのサイズは１ファイルにつき最大５MBとする。

ファイル提出はEメール送信をしてもよい。応募フォームを使ってアップロードする場合、Googleアカウントにログインする必要があります。ただし、Eメール送信を使う場合、応募者の名前、登録メールアドレスが応募フォームのそれと合致していること。

応募受付開始は２０２２年２月１５日、締切は５月１５日（日）イギリスサマータイム２３：５９とします。（GMT＋１：00）

参加費

応募は無料とします。

その他の規定・注意事項

1. 全ての応募作品の著作権は応募者のものであり、主催は一切その権利を有さない。同様に、これらの作品を応募者以外のメンバーが悪用することを禁ずる。
2. 剣道具とは、剣道具の面、小手、胴、垂を指します。1つのパーツ、あるいは複数のパーツへのデザインとする。
3. 応募言語は、英語または日本語とする。
4. 締切期日後、応募作品を一斉に公開する。メンバーはネット上で投票することができる。一人につき１票とする。応募者も投票することができる。ただし、自分の作品には投票できない。この手順は追って通知する。
5. 締切期日後、審査員パネルは審査を行い、vol.4誌面およびウェブサイトにて最終結果を２０２２年８月１５日に公表する。
